Brighton Council has declared the third week of April as “Love Local Week in Brighton”.
Amid ongoing tariffs and counter-tariffs, Economic Development staff have launched both a digital and in-person ‘Love Local’ Campaign to raise awareness about the importance of shopping locally, while also highlighting local businesses and their owners.
“It is no secret that the economy is going through a difficult time and leaving your dollar in Brighton at a local business does make a huge difference.” said Ben Hagerman, Manager of Economic Development and Communications. “Please support the businesses that make our community grow, offer jobs and support our community organizations.”
Through a partnership with Brighton’s Downtown Business Improvement Association, reusable tote bags with Love Local branding have been purchased. The reusable bags will be available at select retail businesses in Brighton and provided to shoppers who make a minimum purchase of $30.00. The bags will be available to customers on a first-come, first-served basis, and to help spread the love further, only one bag will be available per customer.
In addition to the in-person initiative, a 'Made In Canada, Bought in Brighton' Facebook group has been created to act as a resource for both residents and local businesses to share and promote local and Canadian products. Since it’s launch in early March, the group currently has over 300 active members comprising of businesses, residents and visitors.
